Kevin Moore's Showcase Page
I decided to focus on two areas of concentration: educational leadership and literacy in the classroom. Teaching and engaging students to enjoy and understand reading has brought me a satisfaction over the past few years. The courses I have taken in literacy have helped me to grow tremendously; as a result, I was able to secure a position as Reading Specialist, where I will be assisting teachers and students implementing a strong, differentiated, and engaging reading workshop. The showcases pieces I have selected are very much symbolic of my teaching and learning ideologies. Each piece is a representation of my ability to effectively communicate with faculty, students, and parents.
Examining Strong Leadership Practices
The two pieces I have included from EAD 801 demonstrate my ability to effectively communicate throughout an organization. The course provided me with an opportunity to reflect on how technology has helped shaped the educational field. I also learned how to effectively collaborate with my peers. The paper I included on teacher feedback showcases my ability to communicate with teachers on a professional level. I now have a growth mindset about education, as well as the foresight to plan ahead for the future. The lessons in this course were invaluable to my development as a communicator and leader.

Creating a Positive and Collaborative Learning Environment
This course helped to deepen my growing knowledge and understanding of what creates a school culture. An extension of EAD 801 (in many ways), EAD 824 took my prior knowledge, and extended them a step farther. I learned how to create an effective professional learning community, or PLC, regardless of financial burdens or restrictions. The PLC shows how the concepts and strategies I would use to create a positive working environment. The Year-Long and Budget links are included to demonstrate my ability to plan for future, while simultaneously being aware of managing finances responsibly. I learned the value in understanding that working collaboratively within a school culture (both individually and in groups) can directly influence a school's performance. The skills I acquired in the course can be applied to use at any level of the educational system.

"The Factors that Shape Multicultural Education"
I learned what it means to teach multicultural education through this course. Previous to taking this class, I was not as aware of the role history and economic status affected what we discuss and teach. Looking at education from an historical perspective gave me new insight into how I was teaching different cultures and norms to my own students. The presentation showcases how differing cultures and viewpoints are portrayed through different forms of media. The knowledge I gained from the course helped me to distinguish between propaganda and inauthentic interpretations of teaching multicultural education. What I learned from the course will allow me accurately discussion the roles different cultures have had in shaping how we view the world; this is of great importance to the development of my students. This would not have happened so soon without the material analyzed in EAD 850.

Meaningfully Analyzing Literature
The selections I chose from TE 838 demonstrate my ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a piece of children’s literature. The paper I wrote on film fidelity – using Charlie and The Chocolate Factory as a reference – is a reflection upon my skill on analyzing text across different forms of media. The course gave me great insight into identifying themes and morals, as well as utilizing close reading strategies to determine the complexity and quality of text. TE 838 made me realize the need to diversify what authors, genres, and publishers I was using my in own classroom. The reflection piece, completed at the end of the course, discusses what it means to analyze literature on more than a superficial level. This class greatly enhanced my pedagogy on identifying what (and how) to teach reading to my students.
Best Practices for Effectively Teaching Literacy
My students owe a great deal of thanks to TE 846. The course taught me to differentiate my teaching methods to accommodate a wider variety of learners. The lesson plans and case study included from the class showcase my understanding of how to use the necessary tools to authentically teach literacy across the spectrum. The papers demonstrate my ability to create lessons that apply to the needs of my students. The course helped sharpen my ability to align material to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which made my lessons direct and rich in content. The students in my class grew tremendously as a result of what I learned in this course. This was a culmination of all the work I put into creating a dynamic atmosphere through literature.
